Unexcused Absences from Clinic For each clinical session, unexcused absences will be treated as follows: • Attendance to all assigned clinic sessions is mandatory through the last day of the student’s predoctoral program. • Missing any clinic session based on an unexcused absence is considered an academic deficiency and unprofessional behavior. The absence will be addressed in the following manner: a written report of the student’s deficiencies shall be completed by the student’s supervising clinic faculty member/team leader/designee and submitted to the associate dean of Clinical Services. • Should the student receive one written report of an unexcused absence from clinic sessions at any time during a semester, the associate dean of Clinical Services will refer the student to the SPC for further review and possible disciplinary action, which may result in the loss of clinic privileges. iii. Unexcused Absences from Clinical Rotations and Laboratory Courses • Attendance to all assigned rotations and laboratory sessions is mandatory, including any/all clinic sessions in the rotation. • One unexcused absence to a clinic rotation or laboratory session—Missing a clinic rotation or laboratory session based on an unexcused absence is considered unprofessional behavior and will be addressed in the following manner. A written report of the student’s behavior will be completed by the course director and reviewed with the student in the presence of the department chair or designee. In addition, the student will receive a 10-point deduction to the final course grade if the course is a numerically graded clinic rotation or laboratory course, or a full letter grade deduction if the course is graded on a letter grade basis (e.g., B to C). If the course is graded on a Pass/Fail basis, the student will receive a failing grade of F, with a maximum grade of RP, after completion of additional assignments, as per the course director. • Two or more unexcused absences to clinic rotation sessions or laboratory courses—Missing clinic rotations or laboratory sessions based on unexcused absences is considered unprofessional behavior and will be addressed in the following manner. A written report of the student’s behavior will be completed by the course director and reviewed with the student in the presence of the department chair or designee. This will result in referral to the SPC and may result in further disciplinary action. In addition, for courses graded numerically, the student will receive a failing grade of F with a maximum grade of C(E) if the student passes the failed course after successful remediation. For clinic rotation courses or laboratory courses graded on a Pass/Fail basis, and for these courses graded on the alpha letter grade basis, the student will receive a failing course grade of F, with a maximum grade of RP or C(E), respectively, if the student passes the failed course after successful remediation. • The remediation assignment will be determined by the course director. iv. Unexcused Absences from Class-Related or Clinic-Related Orientation or One-Time Sessions • Attendance to any/all class-related or clinic-related orientation or one-time sessions is mandatory.
