College of Dental Medicine (CDM)—Predoctoral Program 2024–2025 121 After completion of a repeat year, the student has the opportunity to use NSU’s “Repeated Course Form,” through the CDM Office for Academic Affairs. This form and process will allow for use of the highest of the two grades to be calculated in the student’s GPA. All grades still remain visible on the student transcript. D. Academic Deficiencies (Didactic/Laboratory/Clinical Courses) 1. In cases of academic deficiencies, the assistant dean of Academic Affairs shall notify predoctoral students of their grades and remedial requirements through written communication. Students who have satisfactorily remediated all deficiencies and resolved behavioral matters will be recommended for promotion with their class to the next academic year in the predoctoral program. 2. Predoctoral students who have remaining deficiencies following unsatisfactory remediation or unresolved behavioral matters may not be promoted with their class and may be requested, in writing, to appear before the SPC (see the section on SPC Meeting Protocols and Process: Academic Deficiencies in this student handbook). E. Student Progress Committee (SPC) 1. Purpose and Responsibilities The purpose of the Student Progress Committee (SPC) is to ensure that students satisfy the academic and behavioral requirements for the degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine as follows: a. verify that predoctoral students have fulfilled all academic requirements and review the eligibility of students for promotion to the succeeding academic year b. e valuate predoctoral student individual academic records to determine eligibility for continuation in the program or appropriate remedial action c. review the progress of all predoctoral students referred with academic deficiencies (see section on SPC Meeting Protocols and Process: Academic Deficiencies in this student handbook) T he CDM’s Office for Academic Affairs will provide the SPC with progress reports for committee review, discussion, and recommended actions on any students who have received referral to the SPC by faculty members or administration. The CDM’s Office for Academic Affairs will provide the SPC with progress reports for committee review, discussion, and recommended actions related to performance grades. d. a ddress problems related to alleged student violations of the CDM’s Code of Behavioral Conduct or any regulation, policy, behavioral code, or academic code of the college and/or NSU; specifically, the SPC addresses issues regarding any predoctoral student’s professionalism, ethics, and behavior and verifies that predoctoral students have maintained the standard of ethical, moral, personal, and professional conduct required for the continued study of dental medicine. At the discretion of the academic program, violations of college or university conduct/behavioral policies may be referred to the NSU dean of students to be addressed under the conduct procedures detailed in the NSU portion of this handbook.
