Dental Medicine Predoctoral Handbook 2024-2025

College of Dental Medicine (CDM)—Predoctoral Program 2024–2025 104 • The roster reconciliation process is initiated by the NSU Office of the University Registrar. During the first two weeks of each semester, course directors are required to verify that each student who registered for a course is in attendance. • Course directors must record daily attendance in all daily academic activities to demonstrate that students have participated in a face-to-face class activity or were otherwise engaged in an academically related online activity. • Among the distance-learning tools that the university and the CDM employ are several web-based systems, including Canvas, a learning-management platform; Examsoft/ Examplify, an online examination administration platform; AxiUm a HIPAA-compliant and ONC-ATCB certified system that includes electronic health records (EHR); billing and practice-management applications; Zoom, a cloud-based videoconferencing system; videoconferencing; and online/media features. • The NSU official videoconferencing application, Zoom, has been interfaced in Canvas. To enter the Canvas course website, students must log on using their NSU-assigned username and password. Moreover, to join any Zoom meeting hosted by a course director, students will have to preregister using their official name as displayed in their NSU SharkCard, and are required to wear their NSU SharkCard, visible to the course director, during the meeting. During Zoom meetings and for the record, students are directed to enable their webcams at different intervals to obtain a visual print of each student in attendance. All Zoom meetings will be recorded and archived. • Course directors are required to reconcile the visual prints captured in the first Zoom meeting, with the official student pictures, hosted in the CDM SharkLink NSU official website. Course directors will repeat this student-verification process throughout the duration of the course. Course directors will report any inconsistencies to the CDM Office for Academic Affairs (OAA). Course Evaluations The web page for course evaluations is nova.edu/online_evaluations. NSU CDM administers online course evaluations at the conclusion of each academic term. Several weeks before the term ends, students will be notified via email of the link to the online course evaluation web page. All evaluations submitted by students are anonymous. ExamSoft • ExamSoft and Canvas employ several student-authentication options designed to minimize and deter student misconduct in an online environment. Specifically, ExamSoft includes features, such as account management, exam creation, and delivery functionalities that enable exam takers to securely take examinations downloaded to their own laptop computers by blocking access to files, programs, and the Internet during an exam. ExamSoft collects and stores user data in a highly secured manner. Specifically, the user data is collected when the user registers to create an account and when the user uses ExamSoft to complete an examination. The information collected includes, but is not limited to, username, student or registrant identification number, phone number, email address, answers, and other assessment content.
