College of Dental Medicine (CDM)—Predoctoral Program 2024–2025 102 of touch and vision. A student must be able to transfer and position patients, and work in a sitting or standing position. The student must promote and support the ability of coworkers to perform prompt care. Students must be able to operate controls, safely use sharp instruments, high-speed or low-speed dental hand pieces, and use hand instrumentation, including scalpels, for surgical procedures. Examples include, and are not limited to, calibration and use of equipment, grasping and manipulation of small objects/instruments, and using a computer keyboard. Strength and Mobility Candidates and students must have sufficient mobility to attend emergency needs and to perform such maneuvers as CPR, when required. They must have the physical ability to move sufficiently from room to room and to maneuver in limited spaces. Dental medicine students must be able to maintain strength, posture, balance, and reach and manipulate equipment to varying positions to control the operating environment. Students must have the physical abilities sufficient for movement in a dental clinic setting, sitting or standing, and maintaining balance for long periods; twisting, bending; moving quickly in response to possible emergencies; pushing, pulling, lifting, or supporting a dependent patient; squeezing with hands and fingers; and repetitive movements. Hearing Candidates and students must have sufficient auditory ability to monitor and assess health needs. They must be able to hear information given by the patient in answer to inquires; to hear cries for help; to hear features in an examination, such as the auscultatory sounds; and to be able to monitor equipment. Student Access to Grades To fully comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, exam grades, assignment grades, and course grades are not posted in publicly accessible areas. Grades may only be accessed by the student through any of the following means: • Students can access their own Canvas profile, where the course director may provide exam grades and assignment grades. Final course grades may or may not be posted in Canvas at the discretion of the course director. Final course grades are accessible to students by access to their own SelfService Banner profile. • Grades may be provided by the course director to each individual student.
