2 | Dental Medicine MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN Welcome to the Nova Southeastern University (NSU) College of Dental Medicine. Located in sunny South Florida, NSU provides one of the best academic environments in which to pursue a dental education. Founded in 1997, NSU’s College of Dental Medicine (CDM) has the distinction of being the first private dental college established in Florida. The college is part of a dynamic Health Professions Division at NSU that also includes six other distinctive colleges in the fields of osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, optometry, health care sciences, nursing, and allopathic medicine. Dental students take classes and interact with other health professional students in educational and clinical settings, community service activities, and social events. Our predoctoral students and postdoctoral residents represent the best of a highly competitive applicant pool. The college has postdoctoral specialty programs that include all dental subspecialties and offer certification as well as master’s degree options. Our diverse student body trains in a challenging learning environment with a dedicated and caring faculty. Committed to becoming outstanding and compassionate clinicians, as well as future leaders in their communities, NSU-CDM students actively lead and participate in various community programs. These include Give Kids A Smile Day, oral health education activities, and international medical outreach programs. NSU CDM’s internationally renowned faculty is committed to student success. Faculty members teach, provide patient care, conduct research, and contribute to the knowledge base that serves as the foundation for clinical dentistry. Contributing to this mission, the Mariani Family Distinguished Lecture Series attracts world-class scholars to our campuses to share new ideas with both faculty members and students. Innovation is ongoing at NSU-CDM. We continually bring new advances to our competency-based curriculum, and strengthen our team-based, comprehensive-care model of clinical education. The teaching of dentistry’s unprecedented, new technologies is at the core of NSU’s progressive curriculum. I am honored and proud to have assumed the role of dean of NSU’s College of Dental Medicine. As we move forward, we will continue to pursue excellence in all aspects of our mission. I look forward to the opportunity to continue to work with our talented and passionate students, faculty and staff members, and administrators. NSU-CDM will continue to serve our patients and dental community with pride. Steven I. Kaltman, D.M.D., M.D., FACS Dean, College of Dental Medicine
