She serves as professor and chair of community and public health sciences at NSU’s College of Dental Medicine. Sabine D. Elisee , D.O., M.P.H. (’11), published a book called The Healthy Whole Rx , which deals with connecting physical, spirit- ual, and cognitive health to achieve wholeness and maintain well-being. “I am so grateful to my attendings and professors at the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine for their teaching and dedication to training physi- cians like myself to treat people—not just symptoms,” Elisee said. Ryan Garbalosa , D.O., FACC (’09), was named chief of medicine for Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, South Carolina, although he continues to serve as the medical director of the cardiac rehabilitation and echocardiography departments at McLeod Clarendon Hospital. He was also named Best Cardiologist in Sumter County for 2020. Jeffrey S. Grove , D.O., FACOFP (’90), received the 2020 Osteopathic Family Physician of the Year Award from the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP). The award honors physicians who have made outstanding contributions to the osteopathic profession and local communities. Shawn M. Iverson , D.O. (’11), a board-certified ophthalmologist, joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina/Prisma Health Medical Group residency program in Columbia, South Carolina. Iverson, who is fellowship trained in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery, specializes in complex cataract surgery, corneal transplants, and glaucoma treatment. Randy S. Katz , D.O., FACEP (’99), was appointed to the Statewide Task Force on Opioid Abuse by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The task force was established in 2019 to provide a coordinated and comprehensive statewide drug control and substance abuse prevention strategy. Members include mental health experts, law enforce- ment officers, and legislators, as well as experts in the fields of addiction, education, and social services. Will Kirby , D.O., FAOCD (’00), chief medical officer of LaserAway, was named as the health and beauty reporter for Life & Style magazine. In his new role, Kirby utilizes his expertise to educate the millennial demographic on celebrity skin, beauty, and wellness. Brad Lipson , D.O., FASPC (’05), a clinical lipid- ologist, was recognized as an obesity specialist by becom- ing a board-certified diplo- mate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine after passing his board exam.
