Allopathic Medicine Student Handbook 2024-2025

176 Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSU MD)—Master of Biomedical Sciences (M.B.S.) Program 2024–2025 Tuition Refund Policy—M.B.S. Program Voluntary Drops and Withdrawals Drop/Add Period Students have until 11:59 p.m. on the first Sunday of the semester—which is the end of the drop/add period—to make any changes in their schedule without incurring any financial expenses. Withdrawal from a Course Students may elect to withdraw from any course after the drop/add period. Students withdrawing from courses will receive a W on their transcript. The withdrawal period starts with the second week of the course and ends three weeks prior to the end of the course. The M.B.S. program allows a maximum of three attempts per class. Withdrawing from a class counts as an attempt. Thus, students can only withdraw from the same class twice. A third attempt is the final attempt. Students are required to be actively involved in all courses they are registered in. During the first two weeks of each term, faculty members will reconcile their course registration with those attending class. Students who are not attending classes, and therefore not included in the roster reconciliation, will be reported to the Office of the University Registrar and will be notified that they will be withdrawn from those courses. Withdrawal from the College Withdrawal is a resignation by the student under which the student surrenders all rights and privileges as a student in the college. A student withdrawing from the college must notify the M.B.S. Program Office and complete a withdrawal form (Student Transaction Form). Students must notify the OSFA and be counseled regarding their financial status. After completing the required documentation and obtaining the approval of the M.B.S. Program Office, an eligible student may receive partial credit of the tuition, according to the following formula: • A 75 percent refund is given if the withdrawal is during the first two weeks of the semester in which classes begin. • There is no refund if the withdrawal is after the second week of the semester in which classes begin. Academic Affairs Academic Calendar and University Holidays Students should familiarize themselves with the required activities for their educational program. The academic calendar is subject to change. Students must check the course syllabus for the latest academic schedule.
