A dual admission program is available to students who are interested in pursuing a career in psychology. Successful completion of this program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and either a master’s degree in mental health counseling (M.S.), a specialist’s degree in school psychology (Psy.S), a doctorate in clinical psychology (Psy.D.) or a doctorate of philosophy in psychology (Ph.D.).

The undergraduate psychology major emphasizes scientific research and applications to human activity. The major provides students with a solid foundation in the knowledge base of psychology, and the required practicum gives students the opportunity to put into practice what they have learned.

Students will complete their undergraduate degree in psychology and continue their graduate studies at NSU's Center for Psychological Studies. Both doctoral degrees satisfy educational requirements for the practice of clinical psychology. The doctor of philosophy program also provides preparation for academic and research activities. The mental health counseling program provides education and training for those who will seek employment in such diverse settings as social service agencies, mental health clinics, hospitals, personnel offices, or schools. The school psychology program provides education and training to students preparing to become school psychologists.
