TECH 1110 Challenge Exam

This challenge exam is intended as a test-out for students in need of TECH 1110 as a pre-requisite to another course or as part of their plans of study at NSU, if they are proficient in the skills outlined below. This is not a credit-bearing exam.

The College of Undergraduate Studies uses MyITLab for its TECH 1110 challenge exam using simulations of Microsoft Office 2010 applications. Since the exam is general, any computer application book may be used to prepare.

Students have up to three hours to complete the exam. Results are available upon completion of the exam.

The TECH 1110 challenge exam may be taken only once, and must be taken prior to the start of the first semester at NSU. This challenge exam is free of charge. Appointments for tests must be made in advance. To make an appointment, please call the Tutoring and Testing Center at (954) 262-8374.

The TECH 1110 Technology in the Information Age challenge exam tests students on knowledge of the subjects stated below:

General Computing Knowledge

General knowledge of computing applications is tested through file management and opening, saving, and closing files.

Word Processing

A total of 15 hands-on activities are administered in this portion of the test. Word processing activities include using headers/footers/consecutive page numbering, creating new styles, changing bullet shapes, hanging indents, and tabs with leaders.

Spreadsheets

A total of 15 hands-on activities are administered in this portion of the test. The activities assess proficiency in formulas, functions (SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX, etc.), headers/footers, sheet orientation, and cell formatting as well as charts.

Relational Databases

A total of 15 hands-on activities are administered in this portion of the test. The activities assess proficiency in creating fields for tables, queries, forms, and reports.
