Frequently Asked Questions

What is QEP?

QEP stands for Quality Enhancement Plan. In an attempt to enhance the quality of education at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), the Quality Enhancement Plan has been developed and implemented as an initiative to enhance and increase academic student engagement university-wide.

Although NSU has implemented a university Quality Enhancement Plan, each school, college, and center has developed a more specific Quality Enhancement Plan with detailed plans of action on how to increase student engagement within their academic programs.

The Quality Enhancement Plan is part of NSU's essential priorities and ongoing initiatives to build the quality of its academic, service, and scholarship programs that will also assist in satisfying the recertification requirements through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

What makes NSU's QEP unique?

NSU has elected to focus its QEP on enhancing academic student engagement. Specifically, NSU is looking to enhance academic student engagement in three categories: (1) scholarship and research, (2) academic dialogue and exchange, and (3) clinical or practical experiences.

How does QEP affect me as a student?

The QEP is designed for students. It will provide students with greater academic engagement by

  • increasing student participation in scholarship and research
  • increasing academic dialogue and exchange among faculty members and students
  • increasing student participation in, and enhancing learning through, practical experiences

How does the QEP affect NSU's colleges, schools, and centers?

Each college, school, and center has developed its own action plan for its specific QEP focus in one of the three areas―(1) scholarship and research, (2) academic dialogue and exchange, and (3) clinical or practical experiences―based upon the unique needs of its students and the evolving demands of its respective fields.

For example, the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education focuses its QEP on enhancing academic student engagement through academic dialogue and exchange; however, the College of Dental Medicine focuses on enhancing academic student engagement through clinical experiences.

How does QEP affect me as a faculty member?

Faculty members are key to NSU's delivery of its promise to enhance academic student engagement in the specific categories selected by faculty members' respective school, college, or centers. Faculty members should actively seek to participate in the QEP and the student engagement focus for their respective schools. Faculty members should seek the direction and leadership for the QEP from their academic deans.

When can I start to see QEP in effect?

Based upon the overall goal and objectives of enhancing student academic engagement, each school, college, and center has developed its own action plan focusing on one of the following areas―(1) scholarship and research, (2) academic dialogue and exchange, and (3) clinical or practical experiences―which addresses an important aspect of its strategic planning and academic enhancement. As each academic unit develops its implementation and assessment plans, students will become more engaged with their faculty in the acquisition and application of knowledge in classroom, clinical, community, and professional settings.

How do I obtain more information about our QEP?

As the Quality Enhancement Plan develops even further, please stay tuned for specific information as it relates to your respective academic program's Quality Enhancement Plan.
