Nelson Anthony Guzman, DHSc, PA-C
Originally from New York, Dr. Guzman worked as a paramedic in New York City until 2003, when he relocated to Seminole, Florida. After moving to Florida, he continued to work full time as a paramedic for Sunstar Paramedics in Pinellas County, then Manatee County EMS, while completing his undergraduate studies, in preparation for PA school. During his tenure in PA school, he served on the Board of Directors of the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants (FAPA) as the Student Representative to the Board. After graduating from PA school, Dr. Guzman continued to serve on the FAPA Board of Directors as the Secretary until July 2013 when he was elected and installed as President-Elect of the Academy, to serve as the President of FAPA from July 2014 until June of 2015. Dr. Guzman also serves as a Director-at-Large on the Board of Directors for the Area Agency on the Aging, Southwest Florida.
Nelson Anthony Guzman is a graduate of two programs at Nova Southeastern University. In August 2009, he graduated with honors from the Physician Assistant Program at the Southwest Florida / Ft. Myers Campus, with a Master of Medical Science. Subsequently, Dr. Guzman was conferred his Doctor of Health Science degree in September 2013.
In recognition of his academic achievements, Dr. Guzman has been inducted into the Pi Alpha National Honor Society for Physician Assistants, and the Alpha Eta Society, the national honor society for Allied Health Professionals. Upon graduation from PA school, Dr. Guzman was given the Dean's Award for highest scholastic achievement. He was also inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society during his undergraduate studies.
In addition to being a member of the faculty at the NSU PA Program SWFL, Nelson Guzman works for Lee Memorial Health System as a Physician Assistant in the intensive care unit. Dr. Guzman also works as an Adjunct Professor for Edison State College, teaching medical terminology. Nelson lives in Fort Myers, FL, and is the father of a 3-year-old son. Dr. Guzman has a passion for teaching and thoroughly enjoys the rewards of teaching at a university with rich student diversity. When not teaching or working in the hospital, Nelson enjoys spending time with his 3-year-old son, traveling, spending time outdoors, and reading.
