Stephanie Anderson
Associate Professor, Physician Assistant - Fort Myers
(239) 274-1034 stepande@nova.edu

Dr. Anderson earned her B.S. in microbiology from Ohio State University and her M.D. from Case Western Reserve University. To attend law school, she gave up a successful private practice in pediatrics that she had dedicated eight years to building. Dr. Anderson graduated from Miami Law in 1999. She clerked for The Honorable Melvia Green at the Third District Court of Appeal in Miami, Florida for two years before joining the faculty at the University of Miami School of Medicine.

For nearly three years at the University of Miami, Dr. Anderson worked with the Bioethics Programs where she dealt with issues of patient privacy, especially issues related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), genetics, consent, and access to medical care. The Bioethics Program has been instrumental in developing the curriculum for educating health professionals on the standards for protecting patient privacy as required by HIPAA, and has created privacy website that provides ongoing information and education. Dr. Anderson's combined knowledge of the law and medicine has situated her as a valuable liaison between the two professions.

Prior to moving to Naples, she did private consulting for several years during which time she was called upon to solve issues at the intersection of law, medicine and ethics. Along with her daughter, Sierra, Dr. Anderson raises, breeds, and shows Rat Terriers. They have recently added a German Shepherd puppy, Majek, to the family to assure that there is never a dull moment.
