Michelle Chandler Ph.D., MPAS, PA-C Michelle Chandler

Dr. Michelle Chandler joined Nova Southeastern University as Assistant Professor in August 2008 after thirteen years of employment with the University of Central Florida. During her time at UCF, she was employed as a Physician Assistant with the Student Health Service working in both the Women's Clinic and the triage centers of the clinic. In addition, from 1999-2008, she served as adjunct instructor within the university's College of Health and Public Affairs teaching Medical Self-Assessment to undergraduate pre-professional students and a Chest Medicine course in the Respiratory Therapy program. During the same time period, she was an adjunct faculty member for Valencia Community College and Rollins College instructing classes in the health sciences.

Dr. Chandler has worked as a Physician Assistant in the Central Florida area for 25 years, first in the field of family practice and later within the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology. She attended Emory University as an undergraduate with a major in Medical Sociology and returned to Emory to enter the Physician Assistant program in 1982. Her Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies-Primary Care Medicine was completed through the University of Nebraska's distance learning curriculum after which time she made a decision to pursue a Doctoral Degree in the health cognate of the UCF Public Affairs program. She successfully defended her doctoral dissertation in 2007 with a Ph.D. granted for research conducted in the area of intensive care unit remote surveillance within the ICUs of two regional tertiary care hospitals. Her continued research interests involve the use of highly-integrated data systems in critical care settings to improve patient outcome and reduce the risk of mortality.

A native of Winter Park, Florida, Dr. Chandler enjoys every moment spent outdoors and most especially, near the ocean. Her favorite pastimes include canoeing, golfing, ice-skating, long bike-rides, and film festivals. Family, friends, and the compassionate treatment of animals remain her passions in life.
