Doctor of Health Science

Director's Message

Thank you for your interest in Nova Southeastern University and the Doctor of Health Science program. As you may know, NSU is the 6th largest not-for-profit, private University in the United States, and is known for quality on-campus and online Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral programs. The demand for doctoral level health providers, educators and administrators continues to grow. Leaders in health care policy and public health are needed to shape the future of health care delivery systems both domestically and internationally. Nova Southeastern University has accepted this challenge through development of our distance-based Doctor of Health Science Program.

The D.H.Sc., was approved in January of 2002 by the University and initially enrolled approximately 14 students. We now have over 200 students and 200 graduates, both national and international and the program continues to grow. The D.H.Sc. curriculum features a multidisciplinary approach to healthcare and enhances this theme by accepting students from a variety of disciplines and specializations. This approach has proven to be a defining theme and strength of the program. We are very diverse in student backgrounds and experience, including clinicians and public health professionals. This has brought a tremendous benefit to students and faculty alike. Sharing experiences and talent from multiple disciplines has truly shaped the D.H.Sc. into a well-rounded and interesting program. Starting in the Fall of 2009, we will be accepting senior health care administrators as well as clinicians and public health practitioners.

We continually strive to improve and build a program that is beneficial to the students and the healthcare community. Our online students have a voice through their active student association, as do our alumni, and are encouraged to share their experience and comments while in the course of study through discussion boards and chat sessions with their professors and classmates.

Once again, thank you for your interest in the Doctor of Health Science program. We look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals.
